July Wrap up - August Dramas

july aug.png

*You probably noticed (or not, who am I kidding) that there was no 2PMathon update for the final week this past Friday. I’ve been in a not so good mental space, and honestly the only things I can handle are music and fun/light vlives. I’ve put off doing anything for it for a later date in lieu of that. I’m slowly getting better, but every day is a journey. I only can pick up things when I feel like it, so I have to be flexible with myself.

July FLEW by. I watched a fair amount, I was supposed to read a fair amount but didn’t. Such is life. This might be fairly long, so grab a drink and let’s talk about how July went, and talk about some of the things that I will be doing in August.

+ completed dramas +

Between the 2PMathon, and doing a Jasper Liu episode on the podcast, I watched a lot of on theme dramas.

  • Triad Princess: I finally picked this one back up to finish the last few remaining episodes on it that I had left. It was fine, it’s too short and the obvious set up for the second season (that will probably never be) is annoying. It was fine. I’m not mad at all by the drama and it definitely had some good parts.

  • Where Your Eyes Linger: I was going to watch this one while it was airing and realized very quickly how bad of an idea that was. Between Viki being painfully slow and the length of the episodes I figured wait till I can watch all in one go. I did, and while I really thought it had some promise, it really tried to fit way too much of a story into the small amount of time it had. If the drama had focused on this just being a moment in time with the two, it would have done so much better, but the pacing and rush really did make this a sort of disappointment. Especially when everything else about it was going right. The actors were perfect. That being said, BLs are not popular in Korea and I do think you should watch this to show that there is interest for more of these.

  • Twogether: What can I say that hasn’t already been said about this variety show? It was cute and the two were the perfect casting.

  • Dream High: I finished DH as per my 2PMathon decisions. Oh boy. Go read all my blog posts for my thoughts on that one.

  • Shall We Fall in Love: Speaking of the 2PMathon, again this is another drama I finished and have posts that explain my thoughts.

  • Theatre: A Love Story: I watched this the day it came out (it’s on Prime!) because I was so excited to see this movie. It really didn’t disappoint me. It’s gritty, raw, complicated and the backdrop of the movie is grounded in theatre. While the movie itself is about this very flawed relationship it was presented like a play. I loved it.

  • More Than Blue: When we decided to do the Jasper episode, I knew that this movie was going to be the one I wanted to try to watch for it. I’ve had it on my list for over a year and glad I finally made the time for it. There were some really great moments in this movie. I won’t speak much, as it could be spoilers, but if you can find it, please watch it.

  • Take Me to the Moon: Another Jasper movie, another one that could potentially be a spoiler if I say too much. I didn’t enjoy this as much as More Than Blue, but it was a pretty solid coming-of-age hopeful movie. Focused on music a lot, which I loved.

  • Before We Get Married: I seem to use these times we do themed episodes to finish up some dramas I have lingering, this was one of them. Oh boy. This drama is good in the acting but it is hard to watch the female lead not have a say in any of her life. Every person has a say in what she does. I felt suffocated for her. If that’s what the drama was trying to do, bonus points…but I don’t know that I believe that to be true.

  • Double World: I’m not going to say much about this movie, because you will be hearing more from me on the podcast that drops this Monday (3rd). Henry was great, as was all the cast….and that’s all I have to say.

+ currently watching +

  • Denetsu no Okasan (jdrama) -I swear I’m not putting this off intentionally. Episode 7 subs just dropped today. I am up to date with this one as much as possible. Here’s hoping the last episode is subbed by next post!

  • Confession (kdrama) - Technically on hold for the 2PMathon. I want to stay true to the challenge, so whenever I start this back up, it’ll be like I’m going into the last week.

  • The Game: Towards Zero (kdrama) - another hold for the 2PMathon. I have faith they will be done this month

  • Under the Miracle Cherry Tree (jdrama)

  • It’s Okay to Not Be Okay (kdama)

  • Train (kdrama)

+ new dramas +

This month I have a few things to watch for the podcast that I’m super excited about, but I won’t post those yet to keep everyone guessing and avoid spoilers, but there are some new dramas I’m interested in picking up. Especially since a few of my currently watching dramas will be finishing this month.

August 14: SF8 // MBC (Kocowa)
This is an 8-part series with (what I know, and I’m not going to go searching now to avoid spoilers) each part being its own separate part. They might tie in somehow, but right now that only tie in I know is that it’s all sci-fi. Can’t wait.

August 15: Stranger 2 // tvN (Netflix)
Ok. So this might not happen this month. I’ve never seen the first season of Stranger, so for me to watch this one I have to get through the first season. If that happens, I’ll keep up with this one weekly (I mean. If I like it. I’m assuming I would, but that means nothing). It might be one of those dramas that the timeline will spoil everything for even if you are good about muting. We’ll see.

August 27: Aggretsuko (Season 3) // Netflix
Hands down the most exciting thing to premiere this month. Honestly, if this is the only thing I watch all of August I’d still call it a win. I couldn’t find a new trailer, so here’s the trailer for the first season:
