End of the Year Challenge
Two years ago I did a drama challenge because I was close to hitting 100 dramas before the end of the year. It was a fun challenge, that for the most part was pretty easy to meet. I watched some things I never would have, and I was able to focus on a goal. Since we are officially at two months before the end of the year, I decided that another challenge was in order.
I know you might be thinking to yourself “Jessie, you literally haven’t continued anything you’ve started this year” and you’re right. Kinda. I sometimes do. There is always a slight percentage that I will follow through and that’s more than good enough for me to start a new thing. At the end of the day, this is all for fun (it’s just dramas, folks) and I actually don’t take any of it that seriously. I still like to switch things up to pass the time, though, and maybe it’ll push me to not just watch Buffy all the time.
Thus we have the End of the Year Challenge.
I, like everyone reading this, have a lot of dramas on hold. And I really want to get some of those before the end of the year. The other thing I really like to do other than create challenges is to make lists - like top dramas of the year lists - and I can’t have dramas that I have half watched sitting around. What if they would’ve made it to the list? The goal of this challenge is ultimately for that, and to clear out my on-holds so that I can start fresh for the new year. I do have some specific goals though because it wouldn’t be a proper challenge without something.
Goals
+ Complete as many before the end of the year
My list of what I want to prioritize is down below, but that does not mean that I will be necessarily be able to get through them. If I don’t, that’s fine. The goal is to just do as much as I can. Alternatively, I could surpass what I have listed before the end of the year, and if that’s the case I want to keep going and not just stop because I have completed those.
+ Prioritize 2020 dramas
I kind of already stated why, but I really want to focus on 2020 dramas and they will be what I watch before the others.
+ Keep up with currently airing dramas already started/want to start
I actually don’t have many currently airing dramas, but I do want to keep up with them. Starting fresh shouldn’t only be focused on the dramas I get off my hold list, but to not lag on the dramas that won’t end until next year.
+ Focus on crime/thriller
I mean, I kinda do anyways by default. But if it’s a choice between one or the other, I want to choose that. It’s kind of a goal for me to start to switch my focus more on crime/thriller/horror for the content I put out on this blog. Not always, but I do want to be a place you can find more information about those genres than others. Not a lot of the drama lovers I’ve found like it and/or focus on it, and I want this blog to be a spot for us who don’t normally go for a romcom or a happy ending. It’ll be our safe place.
+ At least two episodes a day
I did the math, and with the episodes I have and giving myself slack, this seemed like the good number for watching a day. I sometimes do well if I have a schedule. It’s a loose goal, cause I know that sometimes I won’t want to watch a drama that day and sometimes I’ll watch six episodes in a row.
The Dramas
I did a clean sweep of My Drama List a couple weeks ago when I was prepping for this challenge, and I went through all my lists and updated them as much as possible, and figured out what dramas I really wanted to watch out of my list. Here’s the list that I came up with, and what episode I’ve watched to. The first three are the only non-2020 dramas on the list:
Lucifer (11/20)
Who killed Tokuyama Daigoro? (8/12)
Confession (4/16)
Nobody Knows (6/16)
The Game: Towards Zero (4/32)
The Victims’ Game (3/8)
Train (4/12)
Zombie Detective (4/24)
Tale of the Nine Tailed (4/16) - currently airing
After Dark (1/13) - currently airing
The Uncanny Counter (0/16) - airing end of month
Awaken (0/16) - airing end of month
Alice in Borderland (0/8) - airing in December
I officially started this challenge on the first of the month. Since I made the list, I have actually finished one drama that was going to be on this list (Missing: The Other Side), so I’m already calling this a success.
I’ll try to post updates randomly throughout the next months on my progress and any updates to the overall challenge that happen. You’re more than welcome to join me, even if it’s just to knock off a few dramas yourself. It’s like spring cleaning, but in winter.
