October Dramas
As expected, I didn’t get too much drama watching this month, so this wrap up will be a little movie heavy. There isn’t a lot happening next month so I think this is the time that I need to focus on getting things completed and off of my watch list before the year end. I’ll also have a separate post dedicated to the readathon I’ve been a part of for the past few weeks later this week, so if you’re curious what I read for that, check back in a couple of days.
I’ve also decided that I’m going to start incorporating some things that aren’t Asian into these lists. For the most part it will be centered in the new/coming up section so these updates aren’t super long for me to write up, but that might change in the future. If you ever want a better representation of what I’m watching I am fairly good at updating MyDramaList and Letterboxd, so follow me there.
+ completed +
Whispering Corridors - 여고괴담 (movie): I figured that starting off the month with the movie that started the explosion of horror films in Korea was in order. If you want to know all my thoughts, this was one of the posts I did get around to writing. Find the review here.
ThirTEEN Terrors - เพื่อนเฮี้ยน..โรงเรียนหลอน: I had started this last month, and finally got to finishing it. It’s a good series if you are looking for a horror show. It’s short and on Netflix, and I think that even despite it being a younger cast, they did a good job and the episodes were spooky.
The Mimic - 장산범 (movie): The Mimic was good, although it’s probably one of those movies that people will find boring and not like it because of that. That’s my thing, so this one was a good creepy pick for the month.
The Wailing - 곡성 (movie): While I really respect a lot of what this movie did, and overall I enjoyed it, I just thought it was way too long. There were parts that were drawn out too long and so it really pulled me out of the movie during those times.
The Stranded - เคว้ง: Netflix pushed HARD for me to watch this drama, and I finally gave in…and ended up watching it in one night. Think Lord of the Flies meets Lost. I recommend, but just go in knowing that there is only one season and no news about another one happening.
Save Me - 구해줘: We did a Seo Ye Ji episode, so I ended up rewatching Save Me. It’s just so, so good. If you haven’t checked it out yet, it’s on Netflix. I really think you should watch this. It’s about a cult that overtakes a town. Super dark and creepy but incredibly well done.
Moorim School - 무림학교: Again, for that Seo Ye Ji episode. I randomly fell hard for this drama. I didn’t expect to like it, but I did. Don’t expect greatness, just enjoy the fun of it.
Ringu - リング (movie): This was a rewatch so that I could do a pairing of it with the American version. If you want to know my thoughts on it, check out the post here.
The Host - 괴물 (movie): I don’t know why it took me so long to watch this movie. But I fixed that and loved every second of this movie.
Mother - 마더 (movie): I was on a Bong Joon Ho night, and Hulu had this (along with The Host) so it happened. It’s a good drama about a Mother’s love after her son is accused of a murder she knew he didn’t do.

I have a looooong list, but these are the one’s that I’m spending most of my tme focusing on at the moment.

+ new +
Not a lot of new dramas coming up this month in general.
Nov 3 Mother - マザー // Netflix
I’m not going to lie and say that I’m not a little worried about this one, but I’m willing to give it a try. The synopsis is so vague.
Nov 12 Lingering - 호텔 레이크 // Shudder
I saw this pop up on Shudder’s YouTube, and knew that I was going to have to check it out. It’s also called Hotel Lake.
Nov 5 Paranormal // Netflix
I don’t know if this will be good, but the trailer looked so interesting and I’m willing to give it a try. I don’t think I’ve ever watched any Egyptian dramas, and am always willing to branch out. Especially for spooky shows.
Nov 27 The Call - 콜// Netflix
Editing this in after I posted since I forgot it. But it looks good. I don’t think it’s a horror movie, but just thriller. And I’m fine with that.
Nov 28 The Uncanny Counter - 경이로운 소문 // OCN
demons + evil spirits + OCN
Nov 30 Awaken - 낮과 밤 // tvN
I like crime shows with non-supernatural mystery so I’m kind of interested in this one. Hopefully Viki picks it up. It does look a little bit more of a lighter/action drama, which is not something I’m really wanting right now (I just want a really good dark/gritty crime drama) - but I have plenty to watch if this one doesn’t work out.
