June 2020 Dramas
This month actually flew by, how? Here we are with another month of dramas and I *shock* not only watched a lot, I also have some books to talk about since I didn’t update about them in my last post. I know. Who am I.
+ books +
I had every intention to make the Asian readathon a thing this month. I really did try, but it’s just so hard to mentally just do it. I did end up taking part in the Stay Home Reading Rush, so here’s all the books I read for that.
-For the “read a book with a house on the cover” challenge, I read the book “There’s Someone Inside Your House” by Stephanie Perkins. I cheated as I picked this one because of ‘house’ being on the cover, but whatever it works. It’s a YA thriller about high school kids that are mysteriously being murdered. It’s basically Scream. It was eh.
-For the “book set in somewhere you wish you could go” challenge I chose Maurene Goo’s “I Believe in a Thing Called Love”. The book is set in California, and I was supposed to be in California visiting as of the time I’m publishing. It’s a cute YA that was definitely picked because of it’s ties to kdramas. The main girl uses kdramas to help her get a guy. It’s a pretty nice little YA contemporary/romance read.
The other two challenges a book set in place you wish, and a book that’ll make you smile and was able to accomplish those within those two books. The readathon was a couple of days, and so I wasn’t able to get to more than that, but I read and that’s the most important part.
+ completed dramas +
I finished some dramas over the past couple of weeks! I’ve been back on a drama kick, so I’ve been using it wisely.
365 Repeat the Year - 365: 운명을 거스르는 1년: I’m actually working on a more indepth post for this one (I swear, I have some of it written already) and this is a drama that’s really hard to discuss without spoilers so I’ll make this brief. While I thought the drama was well acted and produced there were three major things that the Japanese version did that were unique and loved a lot more. Had I not watched that before, his one would have been better for me. But in comparison, this is just another crime drama and could have done more had it not desperately had to stick to a common kdrama trope.
When the Weather is Fine - 날씨가 좋으면 찾아가겠어요: I finally picked this up after stopping at episode 6 (I don’t know how I stopped there either), and managed to binge the rest in basically one sitting. I had really loved the drama from the absolute beginning and while there were some parts that were a little dull, it was overall a nice drama. As an aside, Seo Kang Joon looked like Chansung the entire series and I just needed you all to know that and if you feel the same as me please leave a comment.
Hospital Playlist - 슬기로운 의사 생활: Oh how I loved this drama. I was slightly iffy in the beginning because of the humor, but that subdued and I fell hard for this one. Easily could be my favorite drama of the year.
Live - 라이브: I wanted to watch a drama, but only had a couple of hours to do so and this one I had only 3 1/2 episodes left of so I figure finally finishing it now was in order. I really did like this one, even if it took me a very long time to finish. I can stop things at random and it’s not hard for me to pick them back up so don’t let that give you any indication on how good it was or how much I enjoyed it. I recommend.
+ currently watching +
I’ve realized that watching airing dramas really isn’t for me, no matter how hard I tried. I knew that I would be watching more as soon as I made a dedicated kdrama twitter because then there would be people posting about it, but in the end it just doesn’t work so I’m dialing it back and trying to pick up new already completed things and dramas I’ve wanted to watch for a while (plus get that watch list down!) so here’s what I’m currently watching:
Densetsu no Okasan aka Legendary mother (jdrama)
Mystic Pop-Up Bar (kdrama)
Tomorrow With You (kdrama)
Not a lot, but I am going to be something here soon around the 10th of June (hint hint) that will up my watching a lot.
+ new dramas +
It is a very light new drama month so not much to report except for the only drama that has caught my eye. Which is perfect, I don’t need more currently airing things.
June 20 It’s Okay Not to Be Okay - 사이코지만 괜찮아 // tvN (Netflix)
I honestly don’t know much about this one, so this could venture into a drama that I don’t like, but the trailer really got me. It hits all my favorite drama tags on MDL so who knows if I’m going to fall in love or not.
