Top Netflix Picks
Last week I talked about my favorite podcasts to help pass the time, and this week I’ll be talking about some of my favorite things on Netflix that I think you should check out if you haven’t already. There’s a lot of content on Netflix, but I centered this list based only on things that I have personally watched.
-Because This is My First Life
If you know me you know that this is one of my top favorite dramas, and now it’s on Netflix so really this is the perfect time to watch it if you haven’t. Contract marriage, a flawed female lead who is just trying to find her path in life on her own terms, a fun friend group. It’s the drama that I’ve rewatched the most.
This is broken into four short films, and while each part doesn’t necessarily tie in with the next in that you have to watch them in order, it does in the grand sense overall theme. If you enjoy indie or art films, you’ll really like this. Also, IU is really great.
I didn’t know what I was getting into with this jdrama when I first started it but it was 100% worth the watch. It was an instant watch when because of Yojiro Noda and watched it when it was uploaded on Netflix. The mystery surrounding the five women and why they are there is so good.
When you just need a good binge show that you also don’t have to be tied to reading subtitles for, Kim’s Convenience definitely fits the bill. Really great comedy series following a Korean family and their convenience store complete with wacky neighborhood regulars. Season four was just added, bonus!
Sometimes you just need a good dark drama about cults, and Save Me is my favorite one. It’s already hard to find OCN dramas subbed, it’s always a plus when Netflix picks one up.
If you are going to watch anime, why not go big and watch one of the most popular and a personal favorite? Enjoy the ride, friend.
This is one of the more recent additions to the kdramas on Netflix. I binged it in a weekend and really enjoyed it. A lot of tropes, but they were introduced into the story well and the AI special effects were well executed. And Chansung. Chansung is in this.
Real talk, most of the variety shows on Netflix are not that great. Netflix doesn’t really care to the get the full rights to things, and so you end up with shows like Men on a Mission where you can watch an episode with EXO dancing…to 2000’s royalty free music. There are some exceptions, and Busted! is one of those perfect examples. Part murder mystery dinner theatre/part puzzle solving game/part vehicle for you to fall in love with Park Min Young. They’ve already started filming for the third season.
-Utada Hikaru Laughter in the Dark Tour 2018
Did you know you can watch concerts on Netflix that are not just big Western artists? Utada Hikaru is a Japanese artist you won’t be disappointed to sit and watch her perform live. Some other concerts to check out are Gen Hoshino’s Pop Virus and the 2015 Dream Concert.
Another recently added jdrama, this follows a young girl as she tries to make it in the entertainment industry and a well-known seasoned photographer in the industry. It plays off of each other nicely between the struggles they both face, and their relationships with their friends.
