Music Highlights 12.07.20
This week was a little slower, or I wasn’t paying attention as much. It happens.
+ News
88rising launched an Asian music radio station on SiriusXM. It has guest/hosts, and music from outside of their label and there are more plans for it in the next year with different segments, takeovers, and podcasts. I’ve been listening to it off and on since it started, and it’s pretty cool and definitely worth checking out.
Two of Utada Hikaru’s songs have been used as inspiration for an upcoming drama. It will be Netflix produced, so signs look good that it’ll have an international release when it comes out in 2022.
SBS FiL is producing a new music variety show, Live On Unplugged, starting on December 11. BoA, AKMU and Paul Kim are announced as first artist line-up to be featured, where they will have various live/acoustic performances.
I haven’t talked a lot about musical/theatre news in a while, mostly because it’s harder to come by that news when you don’t speak the language and I’m not going to lie that it has been hard to keep reading about all the doom in your profession. Korea has been somewhat keeping up with shows, but with newer restrictions up a lot of the shows are set to cancel.
It’s Spotify Wrapped time, and they’ve released a lot of stats on the top artists within countries. Find the top kpop (as well as some other countries) here and the top Japanese here.
MAMA was held on Sunday, here’s the list of winners.
+ Releases and Finds
Standing Egg’s newest single, Reminiscence, is so nice. But they are always nice.
I’m simple. I’m going to like pretty much anything that BAND-MAID puts out.
I feel like I keep saying this, but this eaJ project is really the best thing he could have done. The Keshi collab for Pillows is just another perfect example.
I just wanted to share this ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ that Young K did cause it has great recital vibes and it just reminded me of a specific period of time in my life. He does well, he’s got a good voice.
The collection album of female rock voices in Korea, We, Do It Together, is out officially on streaming. While you can find it on Spotify, I highly suggest going over to purchase it and sharing it. The whole album is great and features a lot of really cool and talented artists.
