LINKS▹▹
-ONI
Netflix is producing stop motion/animated series that is inspired by Japanese folklore. I’m super interested in this, especially because I’m a fan of stop motion filming.
Just like last week with Studio Dragon, Netflix has announced another partnership with a Korean company, this time JTBC. The multi-year deal means that Netflix will have rights to stream their shows on the platform, as well as add older dramas and producing new Netflix specific ones. So, maybe Viki should work on those slow subbing issues…
The Asian Artists Awards were given out and most notably Seventeen and GOT7 received Daesang awards
It was a really great music week, and one of the pieces of information that made it great is that the Japanese group, King Gnu (and a top favorite of mine) is coming out with an album in January.
This is a good article in response to Simon Cowell’s UK-POP and appropriation.
-Kate
Japanese artists BAND-MAID and MIYAVI will appear in the Netflix assassin thriller, Kate. I had no intention on seeing this…until now.
-DAY6
DAY6 (the loves of my life) have a Japanese album coming out this week, and for promotions will be on the program, Break Out. Their newest single (which will be on the album), Finale, will be used the entire month during the program as well.
I’ve purposely not talked about Goo Hara a lot, but this article is a really great look into the problem females are facing (specifically in Korea) and one of the few articles about her that don’t just focus on her being a kpop idol. What happened to her wasn’t just because she was an idol, but living as a woman facing constant abuse and violence and downplaying that fact is extremely hurtful and misses the opportunities to start the conversation to change it.
If you’ve even kind of spent any time in the anime world, you are guaranteed to know Maaya Sakamoto. She’s voiced numerous top animes, as well as sang for the OSTs of those (and those she doesn’t do any voice work in). She just released an album this past week AND put the entirety of her discography up on streaming sites. My life is finally complete.
VIDEOS▹▹
-CL released a teaser clip for the upcoming new songs she’ll be putting out this month. We finally have her back, and I am so, so happy.
-I don’t actually follow AOA (I know, I’m terrible) but have been really liking their recent comeback release, ‘Come See Me’.
-Here’s just a little taste of the joy that is Maaya Sakamoto
-I didn’t realize there was an actual promotional video for ‘Finale’ by DAY6
